Morning !

Once upon a time the LP was funded by some large donors, mostly the unions and er the Sainsbury family, while Tories sold off peerages for a fairly standard £3,000,000.

A very long time ago I remember thinking of how some of the best and WORST things came out of The US, and one of the very worst is the current huge corruption of politics by Big Money . Historically this has gone in waves, of more or LESS corruption, but this ideological movement ( the 2009 Tea Party etc) is consolidating as never before.

Not original, it was there for all to see, but the UK political class continued to meander along while the world changed around them . On the personal level there has been some decline too.

Now trying to imagine Major Atlee pimping for new suits and expensive specs from a millionaire.

NOW, about that Labour Friends of Israel money ...

“Everything about that [AIPAC] money has been toxic. It was a mistake.”

Just two years ago, AIPAC infiltrated the congressional race in Oregon, spending roughly $2 million to elect Democratic Congresswoman and physician Maxine Dexter.

Since then, you could say she’s turned her back on the pro-Israel lobby. She’s taken a stand against Israel, co-sponsoring key legislation like the Block the Bombs Act and the Gaza Genocide resolution. For the first time publicly, she’s swearing off taking any future AIPAC money.

In this ‘Mehdi Unfiltered’ interview, Mehdi Hasan sits down with Congresswoman Maxine Dexter to discuss whether the U.S. should fund defensive weapons to Israel, her Iran War Powers resolution, Trump’s billion-dollar ballroom renovation, whether she supports Hakeem Jeffries’s leadership and her latest oversight visit to ICE detention facilities in Texas.
